Travel Inspirations

JA with rugs.JPG

My husband and I have made several trips to the beautiful colonial city of Oaxaca Mexico, twice for the celebration of the Day of the Dead.  The culture, the people, the food and the architecture have stolen our hearts and we have loved sharing our Oaxaca with friends and family.

The textiles and embroidery patterns, fanciful alebrijes (mythical animals) and painted Talavera clay pottery are a powerful source of inspiration and I always return home brimming with ideas for new collages.

My heart breaks when I think of the impact that COVID-19 is having on the wonderful craftspeople that we met in rural areas of Mexico, who are so dependent on tourists buying their beautiful handcrafted works.
